Flamengo defender Pablo Mari has received messages from his close friends before completing a move to Arsenal, with the Gunners set to land their first signing of the January transfer window.
Pablo Mari‘s close friends have taken to social media to wish the defender luck before his expected move to Arsenal.
The Flamengo center-back is reportedly on the brink of joining on loan until the top of the season, with the Gunners having a choice to make the move permanent within the summer.
According to reports, Mari arrived in London on Saturday to undergo a medical before completing the formalities which might see him reach the Emirates as Mikel Arteta’s first signing.
Mari, who helped Flamengo win Brazil’s Serie A title, was on the books of Manchester City previously after signing a deal in 2016.
But the Spaniard never made a senior appearance for Pep Guardiola’s side and was sent out on loan to Girona, NAC, and Deportivo La Coruna, before joining Flamengo on a permanent deal last summer.
Arsenal is linked with a number of defenders this month, with Arteta confirming that the Gunners would look to strengthen at back in light of Calum Chambers’ serious injury.
But the north Londoners’ look for a defender might be set to finish if Mari completes his move within the coming days.
With the 26-year-old seemingly on the brink of putting pen-to-paper, a number of his close friends took to social media to post good luck messages.
The player’s barber posted an image with a caption which translates to: “May your journey be of great glory”.
Meanwhile, another friend uploaded an image of the defender with a Portuguese sentence that reads: “Will be missed tons at Flamengo.
“Pablo Mari will reinforce the Arsenal.”
Arsenal faces Bournemouth in their FA Cup fourth-round tie on Monday night, before resuming Premier League duties with a visit to Burnley on Sunday.
